So, how do I know it does what is says on the tin?

........Testing, Testing, Testing!

We test every installation. Yes, the test equipment does cost 150 / day to rent, but a simple "Mod Tap" tester used by 95% of installers only proves the wires connected up, no attempt to transmit a data signal is ever made. Would you rather know that you network works or hope for the best? When we leave site we leave knowing it works, not merely hoping.

Most of the budget installers don't have and wouldn't know how to operate such equipment - Maybe gigabit networking will work, maybe it won't - here's to hoping the IT dept don't realise its the dodgy cable.

Why might it fail?

Because the signals are travelling at radio wave frequencies, it doesn't take much to destroy the signal. Untwisting the internal wires by an extra mm or so - the difference between a pass and fail. An overly tightened cable tie will damage the lay of the internal cores - leading to cross talk and hence a defective circuit. The same can happen if cables are bent during installation, or lie on the edge of the cable tray.

This is why we test - to prove that the cable still meets the stringent standards set for Cat6 - and will run at wirespeed

Will it keep on working?

Yes. We use Siemon because they guarantee it. Unlike many other brands, they are not afraid of failure so they do not apply silly conditions. We can talk about brands who will invalidate a site warranty because you used a different patch lead ! That is not a warranty..- maybe its a reflection on the likelihood of your need to call in the warranty!
